+ There's a style to the music.
+ There's a fashion to the words.
+ There's a seduction in the sound of Jay West, but what makes it provocative is all within the details.
+ The Jay West Perspective is romantic. The Jay West Aesthetic is tailored. The Jay West agenda is to INSPIRE. “Southern California’s Newest Buzzworthy Artist” is preparing a follow-up to the cult classic mixtape, “Drugs+Candy”. The table is set.

FADER 58: Kanye West Cover Story and Interview
IT READS LIKE: "But this year was different for West. As the world knows, he went through some difficult personal times, and he appears to have emerged a changed man, simultaneously more mature in his attitude and more childlike in his lack of inhibition. From his absurdly readable blog (he writes it) at KanyeUniverseCity.com to his Glow in the Dark one man show and now his new stripped-bare album, 808’s & Heartbreak, West has become the world’s first interactive pop star. He is breaking down the barrier between himself and the rest of us, and as a result, we feel like we’re a part of his life and art" FULL INTERVIEW>>>GO FETCH>>>

Death of Auto-Tune
ITS ALIVE!!
ITS ALIVE!!
We can Blame T-Pain for being the Dr. Frankenstein of this “movement” and bringing the Auto-Tune back to life but Pop Music’s townspeople are definitely the culprits in their own torment. There is a love/hate thing going on with that vocoder sound and you can’t let go. After T-Pain bought us all drinks we were under his influence. No denying it, players. What’s that you say? You don’t have a song on your i-Pod when Lil Wayne freaked it? So I’m guess that even on today, (Nov. 24th ) You’re not planning on copping kanYe West’s opus of pain, “808’s and Heartbreaks”, laden in the computerized croon that has been oh so popular in the last 2 years. Please who are you kidding?! Even Diddy is working on a new album and he will be giving T-Pain royalties because…well…its gonna be all AUTO-TUNE. Read all about it>>>
Face it folks, auto-tune deserves feature credits if not more. Its more than the chopped-and-screwed era. This is the lifeblood of several radio hits. Don’t let me give you guys any ideas but remember when lots of people dropped remix albums (like Destiny’s Child and P. Diddy or JD)? Well, I wouldn’t be to shocked to see artists begin putting out “Auto-Tuned versions” of their singles. Auto-Tune has had a better year than Lil Wayne! For that matter, Auto-Tune has gotten more features than T-Pain himself because even on songs where the two aforementioned artists are absent you may still find our friend, the monster, the friendly vocoder.
Hip-hop purists criticize raps acts for the over-saturation of the sound but its bane is also what keeps it thriving. I’ll say, hating auto-tune is an exercise in futility, if you truly do hate it. Katt Williams put it to us so eloquently a few stand-ups ago when he discussed the need of haters. Not that disliking auto-tune is innately a hate crime but these days kids call you a hater for not liking what is popular. For example, I am not a fan of Swagger This or Swagger That but I keep that opinion amongst like-minded people (like the readers of Cali.Co.Cool) who know that I’m too cool to ever hate, its just my opinion. Common said on Like Water For Chocolate, “If I don’t like, I don’t like that don’t mean that I’m hating”. But I digress, this was not to be a post about the regression of slang (i.e. SWAGGER and HATING/ HATERS). I said all that to say that even in the 48 Laws of Power it mentions the need of having enemies and courting attention at all costs. The Auto-Tune is so popular in part because so many people speak ill of it. Those people simple look like haters and the user of the Auto-Tune looks like the underdog millionaire in the end. People will like it until its no longer relevant so this mixtape is kinda just for laughs. (damn, did I really say all of that to lead up to this) “Death of The Auto-Tune” takes some of the most gully hip hop records and throws some t-pain on them shits but its just for shits and giggles. Performed by none other than Roger Riley and Teddy Troutman (you read that right). I’m not gonna give a review of the mixtape, I’ve listened to like half of it and the shit is just humorous. A brief description . . .
from their lips to your ears:
"Long in the making and now finally available, our Mishka 2009 Calendar is a dirty fantasy come to life. Shot by good friend and renowned photographer Ellen Stagg, this calendar takes thirteen of our most filthy thoughts and explicitly makes them a reality.
From the girl next door to the girl at the record store to the geeked out chick you never got to meet at the comic shop, we sat long and hard (pun intended), cumming up with sleazy scenarios for every month that are sure to put a boner in your shorts. And as an added bonus we had contributing Mishka illustrator, Jon Vermilyea pen some dirty comicstrips to go along with each month."

T-Pain ft. DJ Khaled: "Karaoke"
I suppose you have to have a sense of humor to be T-Pain. The self proclaimed “rappa ternt sanga” made a niche for himself with the auto-tune vocoder sound and the whole world followed suit. I mean even my P.O., Officer Ross, had to get his nut off on this Put On Freestyle. I would be laughing my ass off too, if people joned me for months and months for making songs about being sprung and falling in love in the strip club then shortly after more than half the songs in rotation sounded like mine. I’m not the biggest fan of Teddy Pain but you gotta hand it to a guy who doesn’t take himself so seriously but yet doesn’t treat his career like a joke. Top hats galore, robot vocals and hypnotizing melodies, T-Pain turned the game into a circus. No, its not hate if you don’t like him but it is hate if you think I’m wack for liking this video.
