+ There's a style to the music.
+ There's a fashion to the words.

+ There's a seduction in the sound of Jay West, but what makes it provocative is all within the details.

+ The Jay West Perspective is romantic. The Jay West Aesthetic is tailored. The Jay West agenda is to INSPIRE. “Southern California’s Newest Buzzworthy Artist” is preparing a follow-up to the cult classic mixtape, “Drugs+Candy”. The table is set.

Thierry LeGoues Photography

Imagine my train of thought. Its nearly 2 AM (1:55 AM). I’m writing. I’m blogging. I have a song in my head; Mary J. Blige “Sincerity” Featuring DMX & Nas. I go look for the record. I find it. I download it. I think of the movie Belly which starred both those rappers. I think of the director of the film, Hype Williams. I google Hype Williams Photography because I’m looking for inspiration. I come across the Thierry LeGoues photography whose work was featured spectacularly in the film. I steal the photos. I share them with you guys, like so:

and now...I'm speechless.

Its in the details.

Just crazy, my friend.

The Gold Bottle: Armand De Brigniac

The gang's all here.

I must say, that ace of spade insignia on the bottle sends it through the roof.

The Gold Bottle (ii): Blossa Glogg

A pretty interesting story I found:

Blossa Glogg + BVD Bottle Design : For the 8th year in a row, BVD presents the annual Blossa Glögg for 2010. This year's flavour is saffron and the bottle's colour is gold. Gold is an iconic colour that reflects the festive nature of Christmas as well as the taste: saffron with its golden colour is one of the most exclusive of all the spices. The Roman X is used as a symbol for the number 10, but is also a hint at the English X-mas.

"A vintage mulled wine for a new decade is a reason to celebrate. We wanted to create a really festive bottle, and the Roman X felt like a worthy symbol the decade's first annual edition". Says Susanna Nygren Barrett, Creative Director at BVD.

Blossa Annual Edition has become a success story which creates a demand around the mulled wine season every year thanks to a new flavour and design. Blossa Annual Edition exceeds sales from year to year, and continues to sell out within a few weeks, increasing customer expectations. The design plays an important role to create excitement and engagement around
the product.

Below, have a look at the bottle designs from years prior:

The Gold Bottle (iii): Moët & Chandon

A tip of the cap to anyone who is fortunate enough to have a bottle of this in the cellar. The bottle itself is gorgeous. One time to the most prolific champagne house in the biz. MOET + CHANDON.

MOET & CHANDON GOLDEN: Moët & Chandon has released The Jeroboam bottle, designed by Arthus Bertrand and covered in gold leaf for Christmas 2010. Only 1743 bottles will be produced as an homage to the vineyard's founding.

Inspiration: Rappers in Suits

The Carter.

The Killer.

The King.

+ M E .

I've been trying to capture the right aesthetics for my new work.
The rap music that I love sold me dreams of luxury in excess.
I wanted to find something to capture that essence.
I don't think there's anything that says DECADENCE quite like a rapper in a suit.

The Big Idea

Living the dream.

I woke up in the morning with dark shades on. A lady friend arrives with a Five Guys cheeseburger, fries and a bottle of Moet. We're stunting kids, don’t try this at home.

The night prior ended with a BBM discussion with Wayne Mallory about our lives right now chasing a dream. The talk was lighthearted for the most part. Poking fun at ourselves and drawing parallels in our perils, the two of us noticed that we’re both beginning to feel the effects of our lifestyle.

I say, “The hours are long. The food is bad. But...The women are fine. The rewards are great”...and it begins to set in.

These conversations with my best friend and manager would soon set the scene for my next big endeavour.

C.F.P. soon come.

Gentlemen, The Louis Trunk

There are few pieces that a man can acquire that are as iconic a symbol of luxury as the Louis Vuitton Trunk. If you're fortunate enough to own one, then you're fully aware. They become heirlooms, like a family Rolex. If they're in mint condition, GREAT, but if they're worn they tell the stories of travel. Here in the new book Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks

I Be Spike'd Out

I used to wanna be this guy.
My sense of Blackness had a lot to do with his films.
Lee is my mother's maiden name.
I used to tell folks I was related to Spike on my mama's side. LOL.

Mo' Betta Blues is my favorite Spike Lee Joint.

Scenes From An Italian Restaurant

I heard one line quoted from this song and I thought the line alone was fly. I went to find the lyrics to the entire song and I when I read it, I read it aloud and then I started spitting it. I could barely get to the next line with getting excited about how much it sounded like rap to me. I mean the writing is so cool. Its not like a lot of bravado, it doesn’t celebrate itself. Its just COOL!

"A bottle of white, a bottle of red,
Perhaps a bottle of rosé instead.
We'll get a table near the street
In our old familiar place
You and I - face to face hm, hm
A bottle of red, a bottle of white
It all depends upon your appetite
I'll meet you any time you want
In our Italian Restaurant.
Things are okay with me these days
I got a good job, I got a good office
I got a new wife, got a new life
And the family is fine
Oh we lost touch long ago
You lost weight - I did not know
you could ever look so nice after so much time.
Do you remember those days hanging out at the village green?
Engineer boots, leather jackets and tight blue jeans
Oh you drop a dime in the box play a song about New Orleans
Cold beer, hot lights, my sweet romantic teenage nights ooh, ooh
Oh, oh, oh, oh…..
Brenda and Eddie were the popular steadies
And the king and the queen of the prom
Riding around with the car top down and the radio on
Nobody looked any finer
Or was more of a hit at the Parkway Diner
We never knew we could want more than that out of life
Surely Brenda and Eddie would always know how to survive.
Oh, oh, oh, oh…..
Brenda and Eddie were still going steady in the summer of '75
When they decided the marriage would be at the end of July
Everyone said they were crazy
"Brenda you know that you're much too lazy
and Eddie could never afford to live that kind of life."
Oh, but there we were wavin' Brenda and Eddie goodbye.
Oh, oh, oh
Well they got an apartment with deep pile carpets
And a couple of paintings from Sears
A big waterbed that they bought with the bread
They had saved for a couple of years
but they started to fight when the money got tight
And they just didn't count on the tears.
Oh, oh yeah rock 'n roll
Oh, oh, oh
Well, they lived for a while in a very nice style
But it's always the same in the end
They got a divorce as a matter of course
And they parted the closest of friends
Then the king and the queen went back to the green
But you could never go back there again
Oh, oh
Brenda and Eddie had had it already by the summer of '75
From the high to the low to the end of the show
For the rest of their lives
They couldn't go back to the greasers
The best they could do was pick up their pieces
We always knew they would both find a way to get by
Oh and that's all I heard about Brenda and Eddie
Can't tell you more 'cause I've told you already
And here we are wavin' Brenda and Eddie goodbye
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Yeah
A bottle of red, a bottle of white,
Whatever kind of mood you're in tonight
I'll meet you anytime you want
In our Italian Restaurant."

The Sounds of VTech / Bilal "Robots"

Bilal is back. The album "AIRTIGHT'S REVENGE" is out now!

To Bilal, people are becoming more like robots through the use of manipulative propaganda by corporate media. This video is his way of opening everyone’s eyes to the truth. As you watch “Robots” you’ll soon find yourself paying very close attention to what is really going on. Pass this along, and help the robots amongst us. And don’t forget to make a change by voting today.

Introducing Graham Knox...

Alex Goose’s Faberge Egg.

I met Graham on the rooftop of a boutique hotel in Atlanta in August. We shared the stage in the show that night, not concurrently but you know what I mean. It was also my first time hearing her music. What a nice introduction?! Since meeting Graham this summer, we’ve become friends and we’ve been able to go back and forth on ideas. She’s a gem. It doesn’t hurt that she’s gorgeous but the most glowing thing about Graham is her perspective. I mean her songwriting is awesome! Her ability to playfully walk a line between innocent optimism and grown-ass wit is uncanny (Listen to her lead single “Dollar” and then play her response on Cee-Lo’s “Fuck You” record, its crazy). She balances it all being being cheeky and subtly sexy.

Visit her site now to buy + listen + watch the Goose-Produced record, “DOLLAR”.

Jay West: "STICKS + STONES" video

Jay West- Sticks + Stones from philthegod. on Vimeo.

Jay West
"Sticks + Stones"
Download: DRUGS + CANDY Mixtape LP
Dir: Phil The God

Initially, I never imagined shooting a video for "Sticks + Stones" but after Phil heard the record, he took the reigns and discussed what his vison was for it. After toiling over concepts and images, we decided that the goal was to do something as provocative and jarring as the lyrics to the song. Drugs + Candy came out at the beginning of summer but the ideas and visuals felt cold. We wanted it to stick with the viewer. So we dug deep and created a world --a visual landscape -- that we could draw the viewers into. Its grim. Being so, what better time to release than the month of October. The start to the Fall.

ALSO: This will be the last video for DRUGS+CANDY.

enjoy.

Silly Lovers

I write a lot of songs. A lot of songs never get used. I started writing this to a stolen melody and I would have to find the right voice to sing it. Maybe we can use it one day for a concert. I don't know. I don't have it all figured out.

And when i leave, i’m gon’ take you with me
You’ll never bear their bitter whispers again
Cuz when i leave i’m gon' take you with me.
So say goodbye to your friends

Silly lovers

We’ll wave goodbye as we pass

Silly lovers

And when i leave i’m gon’ take you with me
Pack all your biggest dreams, we’re never coming back
And when i leave i’m gon take you with me
We’ll never argue again

Silly lovers

We’ll wave goodbye to our past
